چکیده

An analytical methodology was developed to separate and quantify methylmercury (MeHg) and inorganic mercury by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC)–cold vapour atomic fluorescence spectrometry (CV-AFS). The use of UV oxidation of the organic forms of mercury, the tin(II) chloride reduction in acidic medium of mercury and the introduction of a water vapour trap based on H2SO4/CaCl2 resulted in a low detection limit (DL) (10 ± 2 pg, mean value ± S.D. ). The apparatus was operationally optimised through the modified simplex method leading to an increase of the signal by a factor of 2. The method performance has been tested by determining the MeHg concentration in a sediment certified reference material (CRM) and the results were statistically indistinguishable from the certificate value (α = 0.05) both for the mean value and

Rapid determination of mercury species in sewage sludge by high-performance liquid chromatography on-line coupled with cold-vapor atomic-fluorescence spectrometry after ultrasound-assisted extraction.

So far, no research has been focused on the determination of organomercuries in sewage sludge. Here, an ultrasonic extraction method for the rapid determination of methylmercury (MeHg) and ethylmercury (EtHg) in sewage sludge after ultrasound-assisted extraction is proposed. Using TMA (tetramethylammonium hydroxide) as the extractant with 3.0 g copper powder, ultrasonic extraction for 30 min at...

Investigation of methylmercury and total mercury contamination in mollusk samples collected from coastal sites along the Chinese Bohai Sea.

This paper presents the investigation results of methylmercury and total mercury in gastropod and bivalve species collected from eight coastal sites along the Chinese Bohai Sea. The total mercury was directly determined by atomic fluorescence spectrometry (AFS), while the methylmercury was measured by a laboratory established high performance liquid chromatography-atomic fluorescence spectromet...

Mercury Speciation Analysis by Gas Chromatography/electron Impact/mass Spectrometry

Fast and reliable analytical methods for mercury speciation would aid in understanding mercury offgas chemistry. Presently, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulates only total mercury; however, many studies indicate that mercury toxicity is highly dependent on the mercury speciation. For example, amalgams and mercury sulfides have relatively low toxicities, while organomercury a...

UV irradiation controlled cold vapor generation using SnCl2 as reductant for mercury speciation.

A simple and ultrasensitive method, which was based on cold vapor generation (CVG) coupled to atomic fluorescence spectrometry (AFS), was proposed for speciation analysis of inorganic mercury (Hg2+) and methylmercury (MeHg) in water samples. In the presence of UV irradiation, all the mercury (MeHg+Hg2+) in a sample solution can be reduced to Hg0 by SnCl2; without UV irradiation, only Hg2+ speci...

Determination of mercury speciation in fish tissue with a direct mercury analyzer.

Knowledge of Hg speciation in tissue is valuable for assessing potential toxicological effects in fish. Direct Hg analyzers, which use thermal decomposition and atomic absorption spectrometry, have recently gained popularity for determining organic Hg after procedural solvent extraction from some environmental media, although quantitative recovery from lipid-rich materials, such as fish liver, ...
